Thirty years ago, Ali, the founder of Ali’i Kona Coffee, designed and built his plantation style home in the middle of coffee farms in the town of Holualoa, located at the foothill of Hualalai mountain, where the best Kona Coffee is grown. He comes from a family that, for generations, farmed fruit orchards in the fertile valley of Persepolis (in the southern part of Iran, formerly known as Persia). After moving to Hawaii and discovering the smooth, rich flavor profile of Kona coffee, a seed was planted to one day own his own coffee farm and to also continue his ancestors' passion for gardening and farming. As an architect, he was engaged by established coffee farmers to design buildings for processing coffee beans, which provided further knowledge and education to start a soil-to-shelf coffee business: Ali’I Kona Coffee.
The gardens of Ali’i Kona Coffee are at 900-1100 feet elevations above sea level. Most afternoons, you can walk in the coffee gardens and look up to see billowing white clouds on the mountain side and clear blue sky on the ocean side. Periodic rainfall in the afternoon, plus the highest quality volcanic soil, nurtures the perfect growing condition for coffee plants to grow the best cherries. The unforgettable fragrance of coffee blossoms in the spring, the rich green color of young coffee beans in the summer, and the variety of red colored beans during summer and autumn, makes one yearn for a sip of Kona coffee – 30 years ago, it was “Love at First Sip” for Ali!
